Civic associations launch web site to monitor impacts from Atlantic Yards construction

Civic organizations in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Boerum Hill, Park Slope and Prospect Heights today announced the launch of Atlantic Yards Watch (http://www.atlanticyardswatch.net), a web site which will monitor ongoing construction and operational impacts from the Atlantic Yards project on surrounding communities.

Water main reconstruction on Atlantic Avenue to begin in May

The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is beginning a capital construction project on Atlantic Avenue project from Carlton Avenue to Classon Avenue and on Washington Avenue from Atlantic Avenue to Fulton Avenue. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2012.

Traffic calming improvements coming to Washington Avenue

The NYC Department of Transportation is planning to add traffic calming improvements to the intersections of Atlantic Avenue and Washington Avenue, and Washington Avenue and Park Place.

At Washington and Atlantic, improvements will include pedestrian refuge islands, neckdowns, expansions to Lowry Triangle Park and the triangle island to its east, as well as a ban on left turns eastbound on Atlantic to Washinton Avenue.

DOT presents Grand Army plan at GAPCo meeting

On April 16th, The Grand Army Plaza Coalition (GAPCo) held its annual meeting at 1 Grand Army Plaza. The agenda covered the (nearly) final DOT plan for Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park's plan to move Abraham Lincoln to the Plaza center berm and Heart of Brooklyn's update on its wayfinding project.

Prospect Park West Family Bike Ride

Kids and parents: Show your support for the new Prospect Park West bike path by riding it as a family this Sunday, April 10th.
Families and friends of the new Prospect Park West will be gathering at Grand Army Plaza at 10:30 a.m and getting some cool free t-shirts. Starting at 11 a.m., we'll be riding (and walking) the entire length of the bike path to the Bartel-Pritchard entrance of Prospect Park at 15th Street. 

At the end of the ride there will be free hot dogs from Bark, cupcakes from Blue Sky Bakery and more from bike shop sponsors Bicycle Habitat and Ride Brooklyn.  Thanks also to Park Slope Day Camp and Brooklyn Brewery for their generous support.

Volunteers from will be stationed along the route to keep the ride safe and free of skinned knees. 

It should be a lovely day (current forecast: partly sunny, high near 60), a great ride or walk for everyone and an important opportunity to celebrate safe, family-friendly streets for Brooklyn.
