Description:
Since the announcement of the Atlantic Yards project nearly eight years ago, civic organizations have come together to fight for a voice for our communities in the project’s outcome. The stakes are huge, and the fight hasn’t been easy. Forest City Ratner, the Atlantic Yards developer, has enormous financial resources and powerful political connections.

But our efforts are showing real progress. In June, the New York State Assembly passed legislation intended to reform oversight of Atlantic Yards—even after Forest City Ratner lobbied against it. And in July, a State Supreme Court ruled that the Empire State Development Corporation violated state environmental law when it approved changes to the Atlantic Yards plan that allowed Forest City to extend construction from 10 to 25 years or more.

We need your support to keep up the fight.  On Thursday evening, October 13, the BrooklynSpeaks sponsors (including PHNDC) are hosting a benefit dinner to raise funds for continuing advocacy towards accountability at Atlantic Yards. Internationally-renowned sustainable development advocate Majora Carter, host of the PBS series “The Promised Land” will be our special guest. It’s a great opportunity for you to show your concern for Prospect Heights’ future, while learning about what other communities around the world are doing to ensure their sustainability in the years ahead.

Please join us for a very special evening at Piquant NYC, Prospect Heights’ favorite southwestern restaurant. Tickets are $175 per person, include a two course dinner with a complimentary glass of wine, beer or soda. Space is limited, so don’t delay!
