Landmarks Commission designates Prospect Heights Historic District
On June 23, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the Prospect Heights Historic District. With approximately 850 buildings, the new district is the largest created in over twenty years, and ranks as the fifth largest historic district in New York City overall. “Prospect Heights is among Brooklyn’s most distinguished, cohesive neighborhoods because of its architectural integrity and diversity, scale, tree-lined streets and residential character,” said LPC Chairman Tierney. “These features lend the neighborhood its unique sense of place, making it a natural for historic district status.”
LPC distributes building descriptions for proposed historic district
The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission is in the process of preparing the designation report for the proposed Prospect Heights Historic District. Owners of buildings within the district's study area have received (or will receive shortly) descriptions of their properties.
Prospect Heights neighbors turn out for historic district hearing; speakers unanimous in support
On Tuesday, October 28, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed Prospect Heights Historic District. The hearing was an opportunity for members of the public to speak before the commissioners who will vote on landmarking Prospect Heights.
Congresswoman Yvette Clarke supports Prospect Heights historic designation
Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, who represents all of Propsect Heights, has joined with State and City elected officials in support of historic designation for our neighborhood. In a letter to LPC Chair Robert Tierney, the Congresswoman says "I am encouraged by the fact that the initiative and drive for historic designation is an outgrowth of a community survey of the neighborhood's buildings and streetscapes.
Landmarks hearing on Prospect Heights historic district scheduled for 10/28

On October 28, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission will hear public testimony on the proposed Prospect Heights historic district. The hearing will begin at 1:15PM in the LPC Public Hearing room at 1 Centre Street. The hearing is the second step in the process of Prospect Heights being designated as a New York City historic district.
