Design Trust and GAPCo partner for Grand Army Plaza redesign competition

|

From a new entrance plaza for the Brooklyn Public Library, to striking new architecture, to pedestrian- and bike-friendly improvements to its traffic lanes, Grand Army Plaza has been a center of transformation in brownstone Brooklyn for the last several years.

To catalyze Grand Army Plaza's rebirth, the Design Trust for Public Space, in partnership with the Grand Army Plaza Coalition, is launching an international ideas competition, "Reinventing Grand Army Plaza," to generate new visions for every aspect of the plaza’s design.

Top submissions will first be exhibited at the Brooklyn Public Library in the fall of 2008, and then potentially at Grand Central Station in the winter. Submissions will also inform the program for a new schematic plan for the Plaza, to be created in late 2008 in partnership with the New York City Departments of Parks and Recreation and Transportation.

The ideas competition will launch on February 15, 2008. The competition website can be accessed starting on that day. To add your name to the competition email list, or if you have any questions about the competition, send an email to: info@reinventingGAP.org.
