Boundaries to be modified for the Carlton Avenue Open Street
Posted: September 3, 2020 - 3:43pm

Following a town hall discussion on August 25, and after consultation with residents on Carlton Avenue and Park Place, the Department of Transportation and PHNDC have modified the boundaries of the Carlton Avenue Open Street to alleviate congestion on Park Place due to traffic diverted from Carlton Avenue.

Effective Monday, September 7, the boundaries for the Open Street on Carlton Avenue will be St. Mark's Avenue and Pacific Street. This portion of Carlton Avenue will be available for pedestrian and cyclist use Monday-Thursday 8:00AM-8:00PM, and Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM. Vehicle traffic is limited to local deliveries, pick-ups/drop-offs, necessary city service vehicles, utility vehicles and emergency vehicles only. When Alternate Side Parking regulations are in effect, drivers must move their vehicles from the street, and may return when ASP is over. Drivers are advised to be extremely cautious and to drive 5 MPH or slower.

Continuation of the Open Streets program in Prospect Heights is dependent upon community members volunteering to help with placing and removing barriers.
